5 ways parents can teach their children resilience
Resilience is a critical skill in a world where there is the possibility of adversity - regardless of how minor or major that adversity is.
Encourage your child to take risks and accept failure – A key element of resilience is learning how to deal with failure when it occurs – and use it as an opportunity to grow.
Teach them problem-solving - Help your child to develop those valuable problem-solving skills - identifying and analyzing problems, brainstorming and evaluating potential solutions, and tracking results.
Promote self-care - Encourage your child to practice self-care, such as getting enough sleep, eating a balanced diet, and engaging in physical activity, which places them in the best mental space to manage all that could be thrown at them.
Model resilience - As appropriate, you can show your child that you also have to face difficult challenges and demonstrate how you work through them in a positive manner.
Celebrate progress and success - Help your child recognize the progress they are making, as well as their successes, no matter how small. Acknowledging these can help boost their self-confidence.
